Questions to ask before hiring a mobile aircraft detailer

A practical screening guide for owners, flight departments and FBOs: scope, evidence, airport permission, communication and acceptance.

Begin with your aircraft and operating environment

Choosing a detailer is easier when you have a defined assignment. Identify the aircraft, requested areas, location and scheduling constraints before comparing providers. An attractive portfolio can demonstrate presentation, but it does not by itself establish permission, qualifications or suitability for your specific work.

Our suggested first question is simple: what do you need from our operator before you can confirm this job? A thoughtful answer should surface unknowns. Look for a willingness to explain the approval process and exclusions instead of treating every aircraft and airport as the same assignment.

Request evidence relevant to the scope

Ask for documentation supporting any training, insurance or product-certification claim that matters to the proposed work. Have the appropriate operator representative or broker review coverage questions. A marketing statement saying insured is not a substitute for understanding the current policy and the work it addresses.

Our recommendation is to check references for comparable assignments with permission. Ask about communication, scope changes and handover as well as appearance. Avoid requiring a provider to disclose another customer’s private aircraft information simply to demonstrate experience; useful references can respect confidentiality.

Confirm who permits access

Airport rules and minimum standards are published by authorities such as DuPage Airport. [1] Listing an airport in a service area does not establish a commercial agreement or vendor authorization there. Ask the airport or FBO what must be confirmed for this particular visit.

Our proposed coordination checklist names the host, the access contact, the permitted work location and the person responsible for any paperwork. Ask what happens if permission is delayed. Confirming these matters before the crew travels is more useful than discovering on arrival that the appointment cannot proceed.

Ask how methods are selected

NBAA links to aircraft and equipment manufacturer cleaning guidance. [2] Use that as a starting point for asking how a provider obtains and follows the documentation applicable to your aircraft. A generic checklist is not a replacement for current aircraft-specific requirements.

Our recommendation is to ask how uncertain materials, existing damage and unexpected findings are handled. The answer should include a clear stop-and-contact process. Establish who can approve extra work and whether a revised price or scope is required before the crew proceeds.

Evaluate the proposal and the handover together

A good proposal makes completion understandable. It identifies the included areas, exclusions, timing assumptions and acceptance contact. Our suggested handover mirrors that document and records unfinished items or observations. Neither a completion photo nor an invoice should be mistaken for an airworthiness determination.

Apply the same questions to VentureWash Aircraft Detailing. This draft site does not establish aviation insurance, airport agreements, completed aircraft projects or certification. Those matters must be confirmed honestly for the proposed work. A booking decision should rest on relevant evidence and a clear agreement, not an impressive phrase on a website.
